BMR Calculator
Estimate your Basal Metabolic Rate — the calories your body burns at rest.
Enter your values to calculate your result.
Formula
Mifflin-St Jeor: 10 x weight(kg) + 6.25 x height(cm) - 5 x age + 5 (men) or - 161 (women)
The Mifflin-St Jeor equation is the resting-energy formula most widely used in modern clinical practice — more accurate for most adults than the older Harris-Benedict equation.
Example
A 30-year-old man weighing 80 kg at 180 cm has a BMR of about 1,780 kcal/day — the energy his body uses at complete rest.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is BMR used for?
BMR is the starting point for estimating total daily calorie needs — multiply it by an activity level to get your TDEE (see the TDEE Calculator).
Why does sex affect the result?
Men typically carry more lean muscle mass than women at the same weight and height, which burns more calories at rest — the formula accounts for this with a fixed offset.
